SPRING WEDDINGS
at The Canary Shed

Blossom in the hedgerows, the vineyard waking up, and evenings that stretch a little further every week. Fresh beginnings in the Essex countryside, with a barn that's ready whatever the sky does.

Home > Spring Weddings

Spring is a season for new beginnings, which makes it one of the most romantic times of year to marry. As the Creeksea countryside comes back to life, The Canary Shed fills with fresh colour, longer days and a real sense of anticipation.

Our gardens begin to bloom, the trees fill out, and the lighter evenings give you beautiful natural light for photographs. Whether you say your vows inside our licensed ceremony space or spend the afternoon in the grounds, spring here feels relaxed and joyful from the first arrival to the last dance.

And because your booking runs across three days rather than one, nobody has to leave. Up to 30 guests stay on site, everyone eats together the night before, and there's a whole Sunday afterwards — the spa, the hot tub, a walk along the River Crouch, breakfast at The Parlour Café — before a 3pm check-out.

Longer days, and light that lasts

Lighter evenings mean more time outdoors, more time in the grounds, and a long, gentle golden hour for your photographs.

The weather stops deciding anything

Our licensed ceremony space is indoors and fully enclosed, so an April shower changes nothing about how your day runs.

Three days, and nobody leaves

Up to 30 guests stay on site, everyone eats together the night before, and check-out isn't until 3pm the day after.

Why spring works here

What spring looks like at The Canary Shed

Spring brings fresh greenery, colourful flowers and peaceful countryside views wherever you look. Our Creeksea vineyard starts coming to life, which makes a beautiful backdrop for garden games and photos.

The longer daylight hours mean plenty of opportunities for outdoor plans, while the barn remains warm, bright and full of rustic charm. Gentle sunshine, sunsets and blossoming surroundings create the perfect relaxed celebration.

Spring month by month

Choosing your spring date, month by month

Spring changes quickly here. Each month gives you a different version of the same countryside, so it's worth knowing what you're booking.

March

Quiet, bright and the best value of the year. Daffodils in the hedgerows, crisp air and a barn that still feels cosy in the evening. Ideal if you want the whole site to yourself at a lower midweek rate.

April

Blossom at its peak and evenings stretching past 8pm. Showers come and go, but the ceremony space is indoors and licensed, so the forecast never changes the running order.

May

Our busiest spring month — warm afternoons, the vineyard in leaf, lawn games outside and light until nearly 9pm. May Bank Holiday weekends book furthest ahead.

Why Spring works here

Three days, not one - and nobody has to leave!

Wooden picnic tables on a brick patio with large planter boxes, trees, and shrubs create an inviting space perfect for spring weddings. A rustic, dark wooden building with a red tiled roof and skylights stands in the background, surrounded by lush greenery. | The Canary Shed
DAY one

Friday

Arrive from midday to decorate the barn at your own pace, with the doors open and the gardens already in bloom.

Overnight guests check into the luxury barns from 4pm, then everyone eats together - a relaxed supper before the day itself.

DAY TWO

The wedding

Say your vows in the licensed indoor ceremony space, then drinks and lawn games outside in the spring light.

The wedding breakfast runs into the evening, with music until 11pm and the fire pit going outside

Day three

Sunday

Breakfast at The Parlour Café, the gym, spa and hot tub free for overnight guests, walks along the River Crouch, and a 3pm check-out.

Spring styling

Soft pastels, fresh whites and delicate florals

Spring styling works beautifully with soft pastel colours, fresh whites, sage green, blush pink, lilac and delicate floral arrangements.

Seasonal flowers such as tulips, blossom, ranunculus and daffodils complement the natural character of the barn perfectly. Wooden details, flowing fabrics and fresh greenery create an effortlessly romantic look.

Planning a spring wedding

Five things that make a spring day run smoothly

Plan for a shower, then forget about it

Spring weather is wonderfully mild more often than not, but a set of umbrellas in your colours costs little and photographs far better than clear plastic bought in a hurry

Hay fever is the one nobody plans for

Blossom, fresh grass and open doors. A packet of tablets and a box of tissues in the getting-ready room saves several people's afternoon.

Give the weekend somewhere to go

Guests staying in the luxury barns have the whole countryside to explore — walks along the River Crouch and Burnham-on-Crouch itself a short drive away.

Use the light you are given

Sunset moves later every week through spring. Agree portrait timings with your photographer so you get the grounds at their softest, rather than squeezing them in after the speeches.

Blankets still earn their keep

Spring evenings cool quickly once the sun drops. A basket of blankets by the door keeps everyone outside by the fire pit for another hour.

The spring survival kit

A small box of spring essentials, tucked somewhere accessible, saves a lot of small problems on the day.

  • Umbrellas in your colours - April showers photograph beautifully under a good brolly - far better than clear plastic bought in a hurry
  • Hay fever tablets and tissues - blossom, fresh grass and open doors catch someone every single year
  • Blankets by the door - spring evenings cool quickly once the sun drops, and the fire pit stays busy for hours
  • Flat shoes for the grounds - soft spring lawns and gravel are unkind to stilettos
  • Lip balm and hand cream - the breeze off the Crouch dries everything out

What couples say

Don't just take our word for it!

“Where do we even begin! This is the perfect wedding venue, we always had everything we needed and nothing was too much trouble. The venue speaks for its left with its beautiful decor and surrounding areas. The accommodation is perfect and we got to spend precious time with our close friends and family the day before our celebrations begun.”

Lucie & Billy · September 2023

“We couldn't have wished for anything more for our incredible wedding weekend. Jade, Paige and the team could not have done more for us, they were so organised, made us feel reassured and were super responsive to any questions. Having the venue for the whole weekend was just the best, and they were so flexible to different things that we wanted to do and also gave us ideas and suggestions.”

Nothing changes. The ceremony space is indoors and licensed, and the whole day can run under cover. Umbrellas in your colours make lovely photographs.

We are a fully dog-friendly wedding venue — and not only is the venue dog-friendly, the self-catering accommodation is too. Your four-legged family members are every bit as welcome as the two-legged ones, so your best friend can be right by your side from the morning prep to the first dance.

We can accommodate up to 120 wedding guests for both the day and the evening. Our on-site accommodation can host up to 30 overnight guests, so your nearest and dearest can stay and celebrate the whole weekend with you.

Yes, we are licensed for legal ceremonies. Our ceremony space blends indoor comfort with outdoor charm: bi-fold doors open fully for an open-air feel, and when enclosed the room stays warm and intimate. It seats up to 120 guests and works beautifully in every season.

Where you'll be

A spring wedding venue in the Essex countryside

The Canary Shed sits above Creeksea, just outside Burnham-on-Crouch, with the River Crouch below and open farmland and vineyard on every side. It's an hour from East London, close to Chelmsford, Maldon and Southend, and easy for guests travelling from Kent or Suffolk.

In spring that setting does most of the work for you: green fields, blossom along the lanes and long, low light across the vineyard in the evening. Guests staying over have riverside walks, the sailing town of Burnham a few minutes away, and nothing to organise beyond breakfast.

If you're comparing spring barn wedding venues in Essex, the difference here is the three-day exclusive hire and accommodation for 30 — you're not renting a room for a day, you're taking over a countryside site for a weekend.

Come and see it

Ideally on a dark afternoon, when the barn is at its most persuasive

If a fresh, light and joyful countryside wedding is what you have in mind, come and see the barn in spring.

Jade and Paige were absolutely amazing. The Canary shed was the first venue we found online and after viewing a few others they just stood out above everyone else. Throughout the whole process they were so incredibly helpful and made sure everything fit within our budget and weren't just trying to sell us additional bits. They also made sure the day was how we wanted it to be rather than fitting into what is expected of a wedding. On the day, everything went absolutely seamlessly and they worked so hard to keep it all on track. We didn't need to lift a finger, they sorted everything. They were so friendly and so much fun to go through the process with. Jade was always available and quick to answer or sort anything we needed. Everything about the venue was perfect and we are still getting compliments on it. We can't thank Jade, Paige and the Canary shed enough for an absolute dream of a wedding. It would not have been possible without them. Without doubt, 5 star venue.

We made the best decision in getting married here!! The venue initially caught our eye because of the options to have whatever catering etc you want, the colourfulness and fun vibe it gives and it being dog friendly. We wanted our wedding to feel in some ways just like a big garden party and on a sunny day, this venue really delivered! It was such a big plus being able to stay onsite all weekend and we actually loved doing some setting up with our pals on the Friday and seeing our vision come to life. Jade and Paige were so helpful in the build up and were amazing on the day at checking in and just making sure everything ran so smoothly. If you’re considering getting married at the Canary Shed- go ahead and book!! You won’t regret it!

We had an amazing wedding here- Jade and the team are great and the venue is so colourful and beautiful and chill. It worked really well to stay on site with the family beforehand - it was very child and dog friendly, with lots of places for babies to sleep during the wedding too :) I would highly recommend.

We can’t get over how amazing our wedding was at the canary shed. Jade, Paige and the rest of the team can’t do more for you but at the same time so relaxed. They made the wedding planning process so easy. And during the wedding they were one step ahead of everything we needed. All our guests loved it and kept saying how a beautiful and unique the venue was. We loved how easy it is to make your day personal to what you want. So happy we choose the canary shed as you can celebrate all weekend not just one day which makes it more special. The lodges are beautifully decorated and all our guests had an amazing weekend. Couldn’t recommend the canary shed enough!
